Dan Egasparis, a 69-year-old prostate cancer survivor, feels incredibly grateful for his health. In 2011, his prostate cancer diagnosis came as a shock since he had no symptoms. “I’m thankful to still be here,” Dan said. He was stunned by the diagnosis because there were no warning signs.
Although his doctors provided excellent care, Dan also sought emotional support. He found it through the annual Father’s Day Prostate Cancer Walk. The “Run for the Ribbon” became a family tradition. Even when Dan couldn’t attend due to radiation therapy, his family still participated. “It was my proudest moment,” Dan shared. “They came because they knew it mattered to me, not because I asked them.”
The MIU Men’s Health Foundation, founded by Dr. Michael Lutz, organizes the “Run for the Ribbon” and other events. One key event is the annual Men’s Health Event, where men can receive free health screenings.
This Saturday, September 21, the Men’s Health Event will take place at Ford Field from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free screenings, including prostate cancer tests, will be available to all men, regardless of insurance. More details can be found at miumenshealthfoundation.org/mens-health-event.
